In mid-September 2025, TerraCycle held its open house in Portland, OR. The event had a long tradition but hadn’t taken place for some time. Well-known recumbent dealer and cycling enthusiast Zach Kaplan of Zach Kaplan Cycles attended and shared a short report on his Facebook page, which you can read below. We’ve also included Zach’s photos and a video by Mel Birgé from Recumbent PDX.
TerraCycle is still the leading supplier of innovative and high quality recumbent components and accessories, but is now under new ownership. Founder Patrick Franz “retired” and sold the business on 1 January 2023 to longtime employees Casimir “Caz” Covert-Keefe and Quintin Pruett. Here is a link to the announcement about this:
BREAKING NEWS: PAT FRANZ HAS SOLD TERRA CYCLE TO HIS TWO LONGTIME EMPLOYEES
This was TerraCycle’s first open house under the new ownership and was on Monday 15 September to make it convenient for people heading home from Recumbent Retreat. I saw some people there who had been at Recumbent Retreat.
I uncertain about taking photos inside the factory so I asked the permission and was welcomed to take photos of anything. I guess they hid their top secret prototype stuff. Lots of interesting things in the factory to take photos of and more equipment than 10 years ago. Mel not only took photos but also took video footage including with drone and did a short video interview of Quintin. I look forward to seeing an upcoming video about the TerraCycle open house on the RecumbentPDX YouTube channel.
Caz gave me a tour of the factory. Quintin demonstrated how some of the CNC machines worked. As I watched Quintin had one of the CNC machines produce a limited edition TerraCycle headset cap with “I went to T-Cycle’s 2025 open house and all I got was this sweet headset cap”. He had already given me one at the door when I arrived, so now I have a pair so I can put them over the left and right headsets of a trike.
It was really great to attend the open house and I am very appreciative they opened up their factory to us. It could become an annual event the day after Recumbent Retreat.
