There are several recumbent cargo bikes with amazing cargo carrying capabilities like the Swedish Velove Armadillo, but the CargoCycle Nanuk in its semi-truck version is a true Megaliner. This 6,50 meter / 21′ 4″ long cargo bike that can carry up to 500 kg / 1100 lbs of load on three euro palettes, has a maximum speed of 25 km / h (16 mph) is considered the biggest cargo bike of the world. It was built for a major european transport company DB Schenker and has been under test for over a year now. The average load of 20 tons per month was transported within Hamburg during that period of time and the project was sucessful. Schenker has ordered two more of them now.

Christian Rusche, CEO of Cargo Cycle, plans to build even bigger bikes. “We don’t want to go without vans or semi-trucks. But there are areas where bicycles are more economical and faster.”

The price of one such vehicle is 20.000 EUR / 23.500 USD.
