Last week, the Michigan-based recumbent trike brand TerraTrike teased a major announcement on social media — and over the weekend, all the details were revealed.
Until now, the brand’s e-assist model lineup included the E.V.O., based on the Gran Tourismo with a Bosch Performance motor, and the Charge, a modified Maverick equipped with a rear hub motor from Promovec. But that’s changing. TerraTrike is now expanding its range with the new Bosch Performance Line motor in its latest Smart System version, available on nearly all models. Each electrified trike now carries the “e+” designation.
The Bosch Performance Line is a mid-drive motor from the renowned German manufacturer, known for reliability and natural-feeling assist. It delivers 250 W of power and 75 Nm of torque, and TerraTrike pairs it with a 400 Wh PowerPack battery and Bosch LED Remote controller, which controls four assist modes — Eco, Tour, Sport, and Turbo.
Riders can also upgrade to the Bosch Kiox 500 display, a bright full-color screen that can be mounted on the handlebars or the front boom. Thanks to the Smart System, the trike can connect to a smartphone, unlocking features such as navigation, ride tracking, and theft protection. Even without a display on the controller, all ride data — including speed, distance, and battery level — can be viewed through the Bosch Flow app on your smartphone.
The “e+” system will be available on nearly every TerraTrike model, including popular choices like the Rambler, Gran Tourismo, Traveler, Rover, and even the Rover Tandem. The only exception is the Tandem Pro, which cannot use the Bosch system due to its unique front boom design — it remains available only in the Charge version with the Promovec hub motor.
With this move, TerraTrike significantly broadens its e-assist lineup, bringing high-quality Bosch technology to a wide range of its trikes. It’s an important step forward for the brand and great news for the recumbent trike community — combining TerraTrike’s comfort and accessibility with Bosch’s proven performance and smart connectivity.
