On December 14, 2025 Matthew Lefthand broke 9 World Ultra Cycling records while riding a Cruzbike V20c. He was supported by his family and friends who followed him in a van or were around. The most surprising thing, however, is that Matt is essentially a recumbent novice and has completed all of his previous record rides on an upright bike. He did just around 300 miles on the Cruzbike before this record attempt. He was assisted in setting the record by Cruzbike CEO and successful racer Maria Parker.

The 9 recumbent bicycle road records Matthew smashed are:

  • 12 Hour distance record
  • 6 Hour distance record
  • 100, 200, 300, and 500 km time records
  • 100, 200, 300 mile time records

The records are official already so Matthew has 23 World Cycling Records under his belt. Check out his record setting ride stats on Strava here. Matthew averaged 245 watts and 42.6 km/h (26.5 mph), on his Cruzbike V20c, over the massive 12-hour effort, covering a total 505 Km / 314Miles.

Just a couple of days ago he repeated the ride again with the aim to do it unsupported so he had to take care about all his meals and drinks plus also any needed service. He was slower than in December, but broke the unsupported records anyway. He holds 18 recumbent records now and he has plans for way more. Pretty amazing!

The video provides an excellent description of the entire record attempt, as well as what preceded it, including a description of the bike itself and the diet.

Congrats, Matt!
