Jonathan Garcia of Rose City Recumbent Cycles has been very busy in the last few months. The new Mystique is his next project. A great-looking high racer which unlike other bikes of its type doesn’t have a single tube frame but rather a somewhat complex-looking, but very strong multi-tube one. Just like you can see it on the photos, it can be part of the “Your amazing bikes” series I am slowly adding to the web.

I will say in my biased opinion it is the most comfortable, best handling high racer I have rode.

Let Jonathan describe the bike by himself:
“It’s as fast as any high end high racer that I have owned and in my estimation the first bike that finally puts the RANS F5 truss frame to rest as my personal standard of comparison.

The fabrication was done by Performer Recumbents/Trikes for us. It is a work of art. It rides as good as it looks. Smooth, controlled, low center of gravity, huge size adjustment, powerful pedaling and postition.

This is the Ti version which will be limited edition has 7 week delivery time. The aluminum version will most likely be ready for sale right at the end of the year. Framesets only. Frame, fork, headset, carbon seat and struts. Price has not been finalized, but you can pre-order it already!”

And here are few more information:
The bike has one power idler and two return idlers. Also an up-to-date tapered head tube. Ti version has external routing and quick release. Aluminum one has tapered head tube, internal routing, thru axle and rack mount for rear. Aluminum version won’t have dummy bottom bracket either. It will incorporate a curved one piece downtube. The Ti frame weighs 6.1lbs / 2,8 kg, which is light for a bike of this size. 25-28 lbs / 11-13 kg completely built depending on components. The wheels are 700c, but it will take 650B too. The alu version will have mounts for rear rack, but the Ti version would not be stiff enough with a rear rack so one can order a Terra Cycle underseat rack. It will take a double kickstand with a Terra Cycle adapter. It may be the first high racer to have that option!

And once again from Jonathan: “This seat sits at 22 1/4” (56 cm) – without foam – so I am flat footed at 5’7” / 170 cm with some to spare. It’s best trait is the starts and stops are effortless with no anxiety. It is also a bike with zero surprises. It is one where you don’t have to think as you ride.”
