HP Velotechnik unveiled a new version of its Delta tx recumbent trike this week at the CABDA trade show in Las Vegas (industry-only) as well as at Cycling World Düsseldorf in Germany. Starting in May 2026, the model will also be available with under-seat steering (USS).
Three years ago, HP Velotechnik entered the segment of high-seat delta trikes and, following the example of Hase Bikes and Van Raam, began offering a trike that clearly belongs to the recumbent category. However, the rider sits in a relatively upright position, pedals lower to the ground, and overall these trikes are designed more for relaxed, easy rides or short trips around town or the countryside rather than for sporty, adventure-oriented journeys, which are typically the domain of tadpole trikes. Originally, HP Velotechnik offered the Delta tx only with above-seat steering, but it has now introduced a more comfortabl, though slightly more complex, version with under-seat steering.
Unlike traditional over seat steering (OSS), the new system positions the handlebars alongside the rider’s body, allowing the arms to remain relaxed while the hands naturally rest on the handlebar ends. This position enables effortless control of steering, shifting, brakes, and motor functions. “The new Under-Seat Steering allows riders to relax their arms completely while enjoying an unobstructed panoramic view,” said Daniel Pulvermüller, CEO of HP Velotechnik.
Innovative Integrated Adjustment System
To ensure the recumbent trike fits riders of different heights, HP Velotechnik has developed a new integrated design that combines the seat mount and the under-seat steering assembly into a single unit. When the seat is moved forward or backward along the Delta tx’s sliding rail to accommodate different riders, the steering position automatically adjusts with it. A specially designed quick-release clamp allows for easy adjustment while maintaining the ideal ergonomic distance between the seat and handlebars. The USS system also enables independent adjustment of handlebar width, tilt angle, and overall ergonomic positioning. Large quick-release levers allow riders with limited mobility to fold away the right handlebar section, making it easier to get on and off the trike.
