The first weekend of September 2025 is shaping up to be a highlight for recumbent riders in Europe — though with a twist: two major events are happening on the very same date.

On Saturday, September 6, HP Velotechnik will welcome visitors to its headquarters in Kriftel, Germany, for a full-day Open House. From 10:00 to 16:00, guests can look behind the scenes of one of the world’s leading recumbent manufacturers. Co-founder Paul Hollants will personally guide factory tours at 10:30 and 13:30, explaining how an HP Velotechnik bike takes shape — from computer design to final assembly and shipping across the globe.

The program also includes a talk by rider Carlo Krampe, who will share his experiences of “trike-packing” on the Scorpion fs 26 Enduro. All 19 HP Velotechnik models will be available for test rides, including the handbike model used by Olympic and World Champion Kristina Vogel. Visitors can also browse a bicycle parts flea market, enjoy activities for children, and refuel at the crêpes stand. The local ADFC will be on-site offering bike coding, and those who sign up as members that day can get the service for free.

Admission is free, but to help plan tours and test rides, HP Velotechnik asks visitors to register in advance at hpvelotechnik.com/en/open-house-day.

While HP Velotechnik’s event takes place over one action-packed day, AZUB is preparing something bigger and longer: its 25th Anniversary Recumbent Rally in Uherský Brod, Czech Republic. Running from September 4–7, the gathering will mark a quarter-century of AZUB bikes and trikes with a multi-day celebration. Nearly 200 participants from over 15 countries have already signed up through setkani-lehokol.cz.

The program features group rides through the Moravian countryside, factory tours, social evenings, and plenty of opportunities to connect with riders from across Europe and beyond. It’s a special edition of the long-standing Setkání lehokol (Czech Recumbent Rally), and this year’s scale promises to make it one of the largest recumbent gatherings in Central Europe.

One weekend, two styles of celebration — one focused day of insight into German recumbent engineering at HP Velotechnik, and four days of riding, friendship, and festivities with AZUB in the Czech Republic. Wherever you decide to go, you will enjoy it!
